They’re Heeeere: it’s Janicab.

Janicab is here. In case you haven’t heard, it is one of the latest Malware releases, one that targets both Mac OS & Windows OS.

Do a quick Google search about Janicab, you will see droves of websites talking about it, like Intego, F-Secure, Avast, Macrumors, and ArsTechnica, just to name a few.

In the arsenal of tools hackers use to launch attacks, this is just a taste of what is to come in the future of malware, viruses, and the like.

ONE virus, ONE malware that hammers any computer it touches.

As the Avast website confirms, Janicab is a “new polymorphic multisystem threat“. Polymorphic means a virus that changes its virus signature each time it replicates, and infects a new file. It does this in order to keep from being detected by an antivirus program. A virus that changes itself from computer, to computer, to computer.

The point I would like to bring to your attention, is that there is no such thing as a totally safe, secure computer. Irrespective of what antivirus software you have on your computer, all of them will fail at some point or other.

Remember, every virus started out at one point as a ZERO DAY attack, one that has never been seen before, flying in under the radar, walking in right past your antivirus software, because no one knows about it yet. It is that Zero Day window before it is detected by the antivirus companies, that it does the most damage. This is why antivirus software needs to be updated at least once a day, sometimes more frequently, with the latest list of virus signatures.

I get a lot of comments and feedback saying I am an alarmist, and fear mongering. Maybe. I prefer to call it being fully aware. I shine a spotlight in the dark corners to show threats and vulnerabilities, and sometimes I have to dangle it in front of your nose to get your attention. This is what I do, because hackers don’t, and won’t stop.

People are over reliant on their antivirus software, it can only do so much, so quickly. As 2012 came to a close Kapersky Labs reported, they detected 200,000 new malicious programs every day. It is projected to get even worse.

That’s some food for thought, especially for Apple folks.
